I Am An Athlete

2014-03-10 08:01:04

We all have our reasons behind becoming an athlete, whether you're at the competitive, club or recreational level. More and more people are recognizing the impact that life and outside elements have on our bodies, and the negative consequences associated with living a sedentary lifestyle. Being an athlete can be considered to be one of the foundations behind confidence, focus, emotions, and achieving your goals in other areas of life.

It's proven that participating in an active lifestyle is a great foundation for achieving success both on and off the field, reducing anxiety and boosting motivation. For many, being an athlete is a life style choice and the basis of everyday functions. Their actions, their mood and their passions revolve around their athletic abilities and harnessing the residual emotional benefits left behind from a great work out.

Others see being an athlete as a necessary choice based on their medical health. People want to be around longer to spend time with their love ones, accomplish their goals and live their lives to the fullest. We all know that without a balanced, healthy lifestyle that involves fitness this isn't always a possibility. For those who have medical issues and are required to remain active, physical exercise staves off the pain and anguish sparked by their illnesses.

Competitive people know the feeling of success and pride when they win the big game, or improve on their personal best. They crave the glory of proving they are number one in their division, the satisfaction of knowing that they pushed it to their limit and lived to tell the tale. Being the best athlete is key for them.

Whatever the reason behind your athletic endeavors, we want to hear from you. Whether your 5 years old, 20 or 85, being an athlete has no age limit, no experience level and no time limit. We want to hear why you're an athlete, and why you push yourself to be the best that you can be.

This is awesome, I been working out for the past 9 years. It started off as a way to lose some extra baby weight, but being self-employed my stress levels are off the charts. Being able to hit the gym at lunch and do a simple 45 minute workout seems to make the remaining day fly by and helps bring my stress level down. So I guess #IamAnAthlete to help getting rid of STRESS!!

As a kid I was always on the heavier side, and when I hit university I realized that my baby weight wasn't falling off. I joined a rugby team and things took off from there. I was never someone who was athletic but through the sport I lost the weight, got involved in weight lifting and now am part of a Crossfit gym. It's amazing, the community, watching my ability to lift heavier weights is self- inspiring. #IamAnAthlete because I want to continue to make myself proud.

I was diagnosed with arthritis when I was 13 and was told I would be in a wheel chair by the time I was 18. It was hard news to take a first, but being a bit on the stubborn side I decided to prove the world wrong. I continued with Martial Arts, joined the football team and began working out. It was painful but after a while I noticed my body continuing to get stronger. I still get flair ups, but I'm not 28 years old, not in a wheel chair, playing contact sports and living my life to the fullest. I've actually noticed that if I'm not active I have more difficulty than what I am. #IamAnAthlete because I like to shock the world!

As a 73 year old grandmother of 5 people generally look at me as the "hippy" grandmother. My long hair, slim build and strength are all products of me running 2 km a week and do 30 minutes of yoga every day. I believe that I'm an athlete because it's what my body tells me. I'm fit, I'm at the best health that I've ever been and through meditation I can combat any stress or anxieties that life throws at me. I guess that #IamAnAthlete because it was and is what I always will be.

I have been fighting Karate for years now, not competitively but as something that I enjoy doing to keep my mind focus. I am also a competitive cheerleader. A lot of people think we are just girls who wear short skirts and do cartwheels. I'd love to see someone do 5 consecutive flips through the air, lift each other and shoulder press over 100 lbs while wearing a skirt! #IamAnAthlete because I'm a girl, I am strong and I like to leave people speechless!

I'm an athlete because I wake up 3 days a week for crossfit, do yoga 4 times a week, eat healthy, hike and work as a security officer. #IamAnAthlete

I am an athlete by definition because I participate in a sport. But I live as an athlete because I sacrifice to achieve goals. By going to schools and speaking to kids about chasing their dreams. By leaving my own children to go train. To go fight. I am an athlete because I allow myself to be fed to the wolves. Just for a chance at glory. I am an athlete because nothing is guaranteed to me. Or given. I am an athlete because I work for it. I am an athlete because I do. ** Posted on the Kimurawear Facebook Page **

I am an athlete because I am driven by passion. To be an athlete the typical requirement is to be proficient at sports. It doesnt matter what sport it is; you just have to be profficient. Next level athletes are the ones who pay attention. They continously learn because it's in them to live and breathe their sport. For them it's not about recognition or ego. It's about giving all of themselves, so that they can feel harmonious in mind, body, and soul. To others, an athlete may not be the best one of the bunch. But we can agree that athletes strive to be the best that they can be no matter the circumstance. And in addition, they aren't afraid to share. Share your love for sports. Happiness is spread through expression. I love muay Thai. I love my team. We support each other and train to become the best we can be together and apart. Being an athlete is the search for oneself and peace with others. *sportsmanship. I am an athlete. ** Posted on the Kimurawear Facebook Page **

I am an athlete because no matter what is going on in my life I fight to stay active. When I'm having bad days, and am under a lot of stress I usually realize that I haven't been going to the gym, doing yoga or my meditations. This is how I know I am truly an active. My life won't continue to turn without activity.
