Greet The Heat!

The air is frigid, the days are dark and people are irritable.  The long winter months can feel as though they are beginning to drag on, and life becomes stagnant, especially during these dark months when negative energy begins to overtake the positive.

The trick is to set goals and work towards your endeavours. Always thought about losing those last 10 pounds, find a gym or trainer that can help you to accomplish the weight loss. Interested in finally getting your finances in working order- book an appointment with a financial specialist who can show you exactly where your money is going. Positive people are often drawn to positive energy, so if you want good things to start happening to you, you need to make it happen yourself.

Getting through the last few months of winter is hard, tempers are stretched, patience is dwindling and there comes a time when you know you're about to crack. Here is a list of things happy people know to be true.

Appreciate life

When you wake up in the morning stretch and mentally prepare yourself for a great day. Stop sweating the small stuff, thinking about how your day can go wrong, instead focus on that which you can change!

Choose the right friends

If you surround yourself with positive, strong, happy people their energy will reflect on your own life.  As hard as it may be, sometimes you have to cut ties with those who don't appreciate you and  drag you down. Find people who will love, encourage and value.

Do what you love

A staggering 80% of people hate their jobs.  Yes, I understand that you have to make money and pay your bills, but why not set a course to snag your dream job. Take the necessary courses, make connections and pursue your goals.

Life is serious enough as it is, take the time to laugh at your mistakes and find the humour in situations.  Laughter is often enough to break a bad mood, and to be honest is far more fulfilling than crying.

Meditation is a time for your brain to shut down and reboot.  Not only will you have more energy, you'll be able to think at a higher level and distress after a long day of work.

Self Confidence

Being confident in your abilities, looks and life is a hard thing to master. We all have those nagging self doubting thoughts, but figure out who you are on the inside and be confident in it. No one is perfect, but everyone is great at one thing.

Find a new hobby

Do you have those "someday" plans to try a learn a new instrument, speak a second language, find a new sport?  Instead of constantly speaking about it get off the couch, explore, be more sponatnious and find a new talent. Put your plans into action!  A new hobby can push your brain out of a negative space and instead brighten your mood.

Change your perspective

If someone is angry with you or treating you in a manner that you don't deserve try to see things from their point of view. Is it really you and your actions that they are angry at or are they lashing out because of things wrong in their own lives? Instead of taking their comments and anger to heart step back and take the time to understand the frustration that they are feeling.  A different perspective could solve the problem.

Take a look back-

Look back at how far you have come with life. It's very easy to pass over the small victories that you reach and the accomplishments that you make happen. If no one else notices them, treat yourself and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.  Be your own advocate!

If all else fails, and you still can't deal with the cold winter days throw yourself a mini "stay-cation". Make yourself a summer drink, turn on the tunes, throw on some summer clothing and lay out on your couch. Visualize yourself on a beach, enjoying the sun and plan for the warm days ahead!

This winter was brutal. I felt as though I was at my breaking point when I saw this article and figured hey why not try the advice. Although a stay'cation didn't solve my problems it was a great way to recharge. Keep up the great work!

It's almost summer but with my budget there is no way I'll be able to afford a vacation. Instead I'm planning on spending a week with friends traveling around Ontario going to salons, relaxing on free beaches and going to free exhibits as much as possible. Who says a vacation has to be in a beautiful part of the world far away from home?
